Activity: Box guitar

Materials:
Sturdy shoebox or similarly sized box without the lid, assorted widths of rubber bands

Strum up your child’s interest in music by helping him make his own box guitar. Assist him in placing the rubber bands around the box. Space the rubber bands evenly, ordering them from widest to narrowest. Once the rubber bands are in place, have your child pluck each one. Talk to him about the different sound that each rubber band makes: Which band made the lowest sound? Which one made the highest sound?
